I just stumbled across this post, from 2011, by Dave Caolo. He says what I’ve always wanted to say, but much better than I ever could…
When I look at the amount of information entering my day, I’m amazed at how much of it is noise. Tweets about nothing, hundreds of emails that can be deleted with no more than a cursory glance at the first line, Facebook status updates about crops or pictures from people I haven’t seen in 30 years but pretend are a part of my life, the same 12 stores on hundreds of blogs and thousands of RSS feeds.
Enough. America has become a nation of information junkies and it’s time for a stint in rehab.
People say to me, “Don’t you think 52 Tiger’s numbers would be higher if you posted more often?” Yeah, probably. But here’s my promise to you.
I might go 2 days between posts. I might go 15. What I won’t do is post something because “I need a post today.” What I will do is go freaking apeshit when I find or think of something awesome. Like I’m a 10-year-old girl and you’re my little friend and the post is Justin Bieber. You simply MUST LOOK oh my God LOOK NOW.
If you don’t see anything for a while, it’s because I have enough respect for you to keep my mouth shut when all I’ve got is noise. On those days when I’ve got some signal to share, I’ll share it.
